Dusk Stone is a body oil for the hour before sleep. The base is jojoba, which is close enough to skin sebum to absorb rather than sit on the surface, cut with squalane and a small amount of vitamin E. There is no fragrance, so it does not compete with anything else in the room.

The dropper is glass with a black collar: four drops for a forearm, ten for a back. It is the format we prefer for oil because it does not over-deliver, which is the usual failure of pump bottles.

Why this piece exists

Dusk Stone is the oil we made after rejecting four contract manufacturers. Most body oils are mineral oil with a fragrance and a dropper that delivers too much; ours is a jojoba and squalane base with vitamin E, and the dropper is glass because a pump over-delivers oil by a factor of three. Four drops is a forearm. Ten is a back. You learn your number in a week and never think about it again.

The amber glass is functional, not decorative: oil oxidises in light, and oxidation is what turns a good oil sharp over months. The colour slows that down. It will not stop it — nine months after opening, any oil is on borrowed time, and we would rather you finish a bottle and buy another than keep a stale one out of thrift.

Who it suits

  • People who want massage slip without fragrance competing with the room
  • Dry-skin households — the jojoba base doubles as a plain body oil
  • Evening people; it absorbs inside ten minutes and does not fight the sheets

Who it does not suit

  • Latex-barrier use — oil degrades latex within minutes; this is a skin product, not a lubricant
  • Anyone wanting fast absorption before dressing; give it the ten minutes

Use and care

Everything we know about keeping it.

Use

Apply to damp skin after bathing for faster absorption, or to dry skin for more slip during massage. Four drops covers a forearm; ten covers a back. It is not a lubricant and should not be used as one with latex.

Cleaning

Rinses with soap and water. On fabric, treat immediately with a grease-lifting detergent before washing — oil that has set in linen is difficult to lift later.

Storage

Keep the bottle closed and out of sunlight. The amber glass slows oxidation but does not stop it; if the oil starts to smell sharp, discard it. Wipe the dropper collar after use so the glass does not become tacky.

Long-term

Oil does not turn bad all at once — it turns gradually sharp, and your nose is the test. If it smells like crayons rather than nothing, retire it. Keep the bottle out of the bathroom window: the amber glass buys months, not immortality. Wipe the dropper collar after each use so the glass does not become tacky where oil has dried, and stand the dropper dry rather than storing it in the bottle if you use it weekly.

Material safety. Platinum-cured silicone, phthalate-free, non-porous. Clean with warm water and mild unscented soap or a silicone-safe cleanser; avoid alcohol and silicone-based lubricants, which dull a matte finish and can leave a film. Full detail in the materials guide.

About this piece

Can I use it as a lubricant?
No. Oil is for skin, not for barriers — it degrades latex quickly and it is too tenacious to rinse from a silicone surface. Silk Ritual is the product for that job.
Will it stain linen?
If it soaks in and sets, probably. Treat fabric the same hour with a grease-lifting detergent before washing; after that it is out of our hands and the oil's.
