Gilded Arc began as a study in weight. Ceramic holds warmth differently from silicone — it takes the temperature of the room, then your hand — and the extra mass changes how vibration travels. The arc is broad enough to rest against the body without being held, which makes it the piece people reach for when they want something slower.

The rose-gold tip is a separate machined component, not a coating, and it is the only place where the vibration is concentrated. The rest of the body stays quiet. Three intensities, no patterns: the design assumes you will find one and stay there.

Why this piece exists

The arc came from a plaster study we kept on the studio shelf for two years before it became a product: a bent offcut of stone architrave that everyone who visited picked up. The production version keeps that sectional curve — wide enough to rest against the body without being gripped, which changes the whole posture of using it.

Ceramic was not the obvious material for a first ceramic piece. It fires with a tolerance of plus or minus half a millimetre, it chips when it is knocked, and it costs more than silicone. We chose it anyway because of how vibration behaves in it: the mass absorbs the high frequencies that make cheaper devices buzz, and what is left is a low, even hum that reads through the hand as warmth rather than shaking.

Who it suits

  • People who prefer slow, broad sensation over intensity
  • Anyone who liked the idea of Velvet Hour but wants a heavier, quieter object
  • Shelf-display people — it is the best-looking piece in the range and it knows it

Who it does not suit

  • Anyone prone to dropping things: ceramic chips, and a chipped glaze retires the piece
  • Shower users — it is IPX6, so rinse it, do not submerge it

Use and care

Everything we know about keeping it.

Before the first use

Wipe the ceramic with a damp cloth and dry it fully. Ceramic is non-porous, so it does not hold residue the way softer materials can, but the join between the tip and the body should stay dry during cleaning.

Cleaning

Damp cloth with mild soap, then a clean damp cloth to remove residue. Do not put the piece under running water — the seam at the tip is rated for splashes, not immersion. Avoid abrasive pads, which will dull the glaze.

Storage

Ceramic chips against hard edges, so keep it in the padded sleeve rather than loose in a drawer. If the glaze ever cracks, stop using the piece: a cracked glaze can harbour bacteria no matter how carefully it is cleaned.

Long-term

Ceramic does not age the way silicone does — the glaze is stable indefinitely, and the colour will not fade in sunlight. What kills a ceramic piece is impact: one knock against a tile edge can start a hairline that no amount of cleaning makes safe. Store it in the padded sleeve or on a soft surface, check the glaze by eye after any drop, and retire it the day a crack appears rather than the month after.

Material safety. Platinum-cured silicone, phthalate-free, non-porous. Clean with warm water and mild unscented soap or a silicone-safe cleanser; avoid alcohol and silicone-based lubricants, which dull a matte finish and can leave a film. Full detail in the materials guide.

About this piece

Is the ceramic cold to touch?
For the first minute, then it takes your temperature and holds it — that is one of the reasons we chose the material. The warmth is part of the design.
What happens if the glaze chips?
Stop using it and contact us. The clay under the glaze is porous and cannot be cleaned properly; we replace pieces with manufacturing faults and will talk you through what the chip looks like.
