Most couples' sets are one product plus a smaller version of the same product. Atelier No. 1 is deliberately not that. The larger piece is a broad, low-frequency shape meant to be held between two people; the smaller one is a compact, higher-frequency piece that works alone. Neither is the spare.
Both sit in a shallow tray lined in cotton velvet, which is how the set is meant to be stored — open on a shelf, not zipped into a bag. The tray is rigid, so it also serves as the shipping insert, and there is no foam to throw away.
Why this piece exists
Atelier No. 1 exists because we were tired of couples' sets where one piece was obviously the afterthought. We specified them the other way round: two genuinely different objects, priced as one decision, each with its own motor, its own controls and its own reason to exist. Neither is 'his' or 'hers', and neither is a spare.
The tray is the quiet innovation. Most sets ship in foam that goes in the bin on day one, which means the set ends up loose in a drawer by month two. Ours ships in a rigid velvet-lined tray with two cut recesses, and the tray is the storage — it stays on the nightstand, it holds the cables in a channel under the lid, and it looks deliberate enough that nobody feels the need to hide it when family visit.

Use and care
Everything we know about keeping it.
Before the first use
Charge both pieces fully. Wash each with warm water and mild soap, dry, then place them back in the tray — the recesses are cut to the exact footprint, so they only fit one way.
Cleaning
Both pieces are sealed to IPX7 and can be rinsed. Clean them separately rather than together, and dry the charging contacts before charging. The velvet tray should be spot-cleaned with a damp cloth only; it is not machine washable.
Storage
Keep the tray out of direct sun, which will fade the velvet. If the set travels, put the tray inside a bag rather than using it as the outer case — the board is rigid but the corners are not reinforced.
Living with the set
The tray will slowly develop a sheen where the pieces sit, which is normal wear and part of why we chose cotton velvet over synthetic flock. Keep it out of direct sun to slow fading, lift the pieces out by the body rather than prising them from the recesses, and if you take the set travelling, wrap the tray in the outer sleeve it shipped in — the board is rigid but the corners are the first thing to show a journey.
Material safety. Platinum-cured silicone, phthalate-free, non-porous. Clean with warm water and mild unscented soap or a silicone-safe cleanser; avoid alcohol and silicone-based lubricants, which dull a matte finish and can leave a film. Full detail in the materials guide.
