Evening Pair exists because the two things people actually use together are a candle and an oil, and they are almost always sold apart. The candle is a low-temperature soy blend in a rough stone vessel that holds heat well; the oil is a light, unscented blend of jojoba and sweet almond that absorbs without leaving a residue on sheets.

The wax melts at a temperature that is warm rather than hot, which is the point: it can be poured, but it is not marketed as a massage candle and should be tested on the wrist first. The stone vessel is heavy enough to stay put and can be reused once the wax is finished.

Why this piece exists

Evening Pair came from watching what people actually did with the two products we sold separately: they bought a candle and an oil and used them in the same hour, on the same shelf. Pairing them was not a marketing idea, it was an inventory of behaviour. The pricing reflects it — the pair costs less than the two pieces apart.

The stone vessel is cast in two halves and ground flat by hand, which is why the walls are thick and uneven in a way that photographs badly and feels expensive. It holds heat long after the flame is out, and it is the single most reused object we sell: brush pot, vase, match striker, incense holder. We have stopped counting what customers tell us they use theirs for.

Who it suits

  • Anyone building a wind-down ritual rather than a single-product evening
  • Gift buyers — this is the piece that does not embarrass anyone when unwrapped
  • People who dislike scented candles; the wax is deliberately quiet

Who it does not suit

  • Nut-allergy households: the oil contains sweet almond
  • Anyone wanting a strong fragrance throw — this candle scents a hand-span, not a room

Use and care

Everything we know about keeping it.

Using the candle

Trim the wick to 5 mm before each light and burn for at least an hour the first time so the pool reaches the edge of the vessel. Never burn for more than three hours at once. If you pour the wax, test the temperature on your inner wrist first.

Using the oil

Two or three pumps is enough for a back or shoulders. It absorbs in about ten minutes; if you want more slip, add a little water rather than more oil. Do not use with latex barriers — oil degrades latex.

Storage

Keep the oil out of sunlight and away from heat; the amber glass is there to slow oxidation, not to make it shelf-stable indefinitely. Once opened, use within a year. Store the candle covered to keep dust out of the wax.

After the last burn

Pour out the final tablespoon of warm wax rather than digging at cold wax with a knife — the vessel cracks under leverage. Warm the stone in your hands, wipe with a paper towel, then wash it with hot soapy water and it is ready for whatever you want it to hold next. The oil bottle is standard amber glass: recycle it, or keep it for the refill we sell separately.

Material safety. Platinum-cured silicone, phthalate-free, non-porous. Clean with warm water and mild unscented soap or a silicone-safe cleanser; avoid alcohol and silicone-based lubricants, which dull a matte finish and can leave a film. Full detail in the materials guide.

About this piece

Is the candle really safe to pour on skin?
It is a low-temperature blend, but we do not sell it as a massage candle. If you pour, test the melted wax on your inner wrist first and never pour from a candle that has burned for over an hour.
Does the oil stain sheets?
Jojoba absorbs into skin in about ten minutes; what reaches fabric should be treated the same hour with a grease-lifting detergent. Set-in oil on linen rarely comes out fully — that is honest, not a caveat we can design around.
